Film Screening: "Who Killed the Electric Car?". This documentary deals with the construction and eventual destruction of battery run electric cars in the 1990's. Come see what part the government and oil companies played in this "murder mystery." Sandwiches will be served at 6 pm and the movie will start at 6:30.

Speaker on Health Care Reform. Dr Nike Mourikes of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) will speak about health care reform proposals and about the program which PNHP supports. Dr Mourikes is an internist who practices at Cook County Hospital. She is a frequent speaker on this subject. The public is very welcome at this event.

Candidate Forum - Cook County Board Primary: 6th District. This Forum will feature those running in both the Republican and Democratic primary races for the 6th District of the Cook County Board. One hour will be devoted to candidates from each party. As there are three individuals seeking the spot on the ballot for each party, this should be an interesting evening! The 6th District includes much of Park Forest.

The three Democrat candidates are the incumbent Joan Patricia Murphy and challengers Nick Valadez and John Fairman. 7-8 pm
The Republican Party candidates for the Sixth District are William R. Moran, Michael Hawkins and Sandra K. Czyznikiewicz. 8:15-9:15 pm
This event is open to the public.

LWVUS Program Planning. Our League will participate in LWVUS Program Planning. To prepare for this important process, go to lwv.org and look at "Impact on Issues" (2008-2010) to determine if you'd like to recommend reviewing any current LWVUS position or the study of any issues not currently addressed. This is a great way to acquaint you with positions the League has adopted. Program Planning is also your opportunity to recommend a new local study. This meeting will be held in the Board room.

Learn About Redistricting and the IL Fair Map Amendment. Jan Czarnik, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Illinois, will give a presentation on the need to change the way legislative districts are drawn in Illinois. She will also explain how the public can start to make this happen by signing a petition to get an amendment to the state constitution on our November ballot.
