Non-Partisan Policy |
The League of Women Voters takes great pride in its policy of non-partisanship. It is the responsibility of all members of the League to help interpret this policy to the community and to stress that the League does not support candidates or parties nor does it take a stand on issues without the informed consensus of its membership. |
However, the League of Women Voters encourages its members to act as individuals in the political processes and is justly proud of its members’ achievements. Restrictions on partisan activities are placed only on certain Board members who act as public representatives of the League as a whole. These restrictions are to be explained to the prospective Board member at the time s/he is asked to serve. |
The President, Voter Service and Membership Chair are asked to refrain from working publicly to support a political party, candidate for office, or other partisan activity and may not run for election during their term of office. Appointments to an official board, commission or committee for these Board members must be approved by the Board of the League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area. The Board must consider carefully the possibilities of conflict between League position and policy and those of the commission or board. |
